Laura Avery speaks with Geoff Bamber of Holy Guacamole about his avocados. He sells Haas avocados between December and October and Reed avocados between June and October. You'll know him because he peddles his guac like a barker on a State Fair midway. Laura also meets up with Alex Weiser who tells us about jujubes, or Chinese dates, from the tree whose branches made Jesus' crown of thorns. Alex also has a bumper crop of squashes. On Sunday, October 9, join LA cyclists and foodies for the Second Annual LACBC Bicycle Sundae: a two-wheel tour of exotic ice creams and culturally hip neighborhoods. $15 registration includes tastings, route map and bike support. Registration is 9-10am at Griffith Manor Park (1551 Flower St, near Sonora) in Glendale; Tour begins at 10am; ride covers approximately 10-15 miles. The tour samples fine and unique ice creams, ranging from Persian to Indian and from Mexican to Italian. Participating shops include Mashti Malone's new shop in Glendale, Whole Foods, India Sweets and Spices, and more. Bicycle Sundae is one of a series of rides by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition that promotes the pleasures of bicycling in Los Angeles. Gustavo Arellano, food editor of the OC Weekly, spoke about Mexican ice cream. One of the great places you can find it is at Delicias de M-xico (714-636-7163) at 13466 Harbor Blvd in Garden Grove.

Tom Sullivan of Totally Bamboo, had some sharp tips on bamboo cutting boards, which are friendly to the environment.

Bill LeBlond, veteran cookbook editor at Chronicle Books, looked at cookbook mania, including who buys cookbooks, what sells, and what we can expect next.

Will Clower spoke about the -Freshman 15,- the reasons why college students gain the weight and hints on how to avoid those unwanted pounds.

Jacqueline Danforth, CEO of Fact Corporation revealed the myths in food labeling. She says what isn-t printed is often just as important as what is.

Eddie Lin of Deep End Dining spoke about unusual foods.
