The Market Report ()

Laura Avery chats with private chef Dave Rubell, who talks about creating a vegetable sauté with the bounty of the market. Create your own with your favorite vegetables. Start with butter and diced shallots. Then add a similarly sized dice of broccoli, corn, asparagus tips, zucchini and anything else you choose.

Where to find those savory shallots, you ask? Farmer Alex Weiser, of Weiser Family Farms, will have shallots beginning this weekend. These brown-skinned, multi-bulbed flavor-enhancers are beloved by chefs for their flavor, which falls somewhere between garlic and onion.

Chicago-Style Hot Dogs ()

LA Weekly's Pultizer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold hits the LA streets in search of Chicago-style hot dogs. A Chicago-style dog is a Vienna beef frank, yellow mustard, relish, chopped raw onions, celery salt, pickle spear and tomatoes nestled into poppy-seed bun. Jonathan also stumbles upon the "Twinkie dog", a hot dog sandwiched between two deep-fried Hostess Twinkies and garnished with Cheez Whiz.
