Restaurant Camp, Hoosier Pie, LA’s Best Soup Dumpling

Visit a summer camp where kids create their very own restaurant. A pie-lover discovers the regionality of American pie. Plus, LA’s best soup dumpling.

Do you like Chinese food? Probably not as much as David Chan, a local businessman who has eaten at over 6,000 Chinese restaurants. Speaking of Chinese food, Jonathan Gold discovers his new favorite soup dumpling in LA and Sang Yoon describes traditional night markets in Asia. Reporter Alan Bjerga details the drought conditions he has seen on his road trip through the Midwest and Ray Offenheiser  of OXFAM America explains what drought conditions here in the US mean for markets and food aid worldwide. Good Food Producer Gillian Ferguson  visits a “Restaurant Camp” where the kids are in charge of the menu and we’ll explore the United States of Pie with author Adrienne Kane. Plus, Maryann Carpenter of Coastal Organics is back at the Santa Monica Farmers Market with her bounty of heirloom tomatoes and Gavin Mills of Wood Vine shares a recipe for Grilled Peach and Burrata Salad.

Good Food Producer Gillian Ferguson visits Kitchen Kid’s Restaurant Camp in Santa Monica. The campers are tasked with creating their own restaurant. One group chose a Sushi concept while the other group chose Southern Comfort.

Jonathan’s New Favorite Soup Dumpling ()

Jonathan Gold finds his new favorite soup dumpling in Los Angeles at Hui Tou Xiang Noodle House in the San Gabriel Valley. His favorite are the soup dumplings filled with pork and crab but he also likes the pork pot stickers and the leek pancake.
