The way the television business used to work was, if you had a pilot in production, at some point you'd call up your writer friends and ask them to help out for a day, and they would – usually with some grumbling; pilot season is also when most writers are on hiatus, after all – and in exchange for some kind of mid-range take-out dinner they'd see a run-through and tell you that you were in good shape, and sit with you for the night as you tried to fix and patch and punch up...
