Why Is the Central Valley Sick?
Currently rates of diabetes, asthma and obesity in the region are staggering, and over 20 percent of the population is uninsured. Lack of access to healthcare is a significant barrier to treatment. With the population of the area expected to grow, not shrink, the problems will only intensify. California Endowment Central Valley Program Manager Sarah Reyes, Central Valley Health Policy Institute Executive Director John Capitman, and San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation CEO Edward C. Palacios discuss what can be done to improve the health of the Central Valley. Sarah Varney of KQED moderates the panel.
