KCRW's Are Friends Eclectic? Amazing music featuring Iron and Wine, Jimmy Cliff, Other Lives, White Denim, Brett Dennen, Mia Doi Todd, The Belle Brigade, The Secret Sisters, Zee Avi at the Orpheum Theatre, Downtown LA

  • Jimmy Cliff Jimmy Cliff is a reggae legend and is back in the swing of things with a new album recorded with Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong. Both a Grammy winner and an inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cliff rose to fame with the classic film "The Harder They Come" and the accompanying soundtrack, which featured some of his biggest hits. His voice is stronger than ever and we're thrilled to feature Jimmy in a performance of this exciting new material, as well as the classics that established him as an important figure in music.
  • Iron and Wine Sam Beam, best known as Iron and Wine, has become one of today's greatest story tellers, crafting meticulous tales full of forlorn love and wistful dreams. He really beefs up his sound on his latest release, Kiss Each Other Clean. Backed by a large band and unexpected instrumentation, his tender melodies are complimented by sumptuous vocals and make for a dynamic live performance that is utterly captivating.
  • Brett Dennen KCRW was an early believer in Brett Dennen as the first radio station to ever play his music back when he was just getting started as a musician from a little farm town in Northern California. Over the course of four albums and a move to L.A., Brett has won a dedicated audience for his joyful, catchy pop, aimed squarely at making people dance. His latest "Loverboy" is full of feel good songs and every show he plays is a celebration.
  • Other Lives Okalahoma's Other Lives have had a big year, including sold out tour dates with Bon Iver and rave reviews for their sophomore album Tamer Animals. The band went into self-imposed hibernation to make the album, but their captivating music was meant to be shared with an audience. It surrounds you with layers of rich orchestration and lush melodies. Their live performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic this year was stunning and it's sure to be a treat.
  • The Belle Brigade LA-based sibling duo Barbara and Ethan Gruska have music in their blood since their grandfather is legendary composer John Williams. Their style, however, is catchy, full of energy and references the music they grew up on -- greats like Paul Simon and Fleetwood Mac. They have a natural charisma that is infectious, especially when combined with their flawless pop harmonies.
  • White Denim It's hard to pin down the sound of Austin-based White Denim, but there is one thing we know for sure – it rocks! Slightly psychedelic, occasionally funky and at times delving into prog rock territory, White Denim's latest album "D" is classic rock for a new era. It's enthralling on record and their live show is something to behold.
  • The Secret Sisters The raw talent of The Secret Sisters, Laura and Lydia Rogers was captured over two weeks in a Nashville Studio resulting in their debut self-titled album, a KCRW favorite. These sisters from Alabama bring an indie-cool to classic pop with clear, crisp vocals and a sound both timeless and of the moment. The Secret Sisters will grace the stage with their unique blend of 40's style with a twist, just right for a holiday celebration.
  • Mia Doi Todd Prolific L.A. singer/songwriter Mia Doi Todd found her voice writing songs about nature, romance, love and loss. She's a classically-trained vocalist and embraces a rich variety of cultural influences in her work. Her latest release, Cosmic Ocean Ship, is one of her best and captures the warmth of both her spirit and her gorgeous voice.
  • Zee Avi Four years ago, Malaysian singer Zee Avi became the toast of the internet as thousands of viewers discovered her effortless and stunning voice. She was quickly signed to Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records and is now celebrating the release of her sophomore album, which features her whimsical, buoyant ukulele-based melodies and sweet vocals. Zee's music is inviting and authentic, a perfect fit to celebrate the holiday season.
  • Anna Calvi Anna Calvi is, without a doubt, one of the most talented new artists to emerge from the music scene this year. She is mesmerizing, both as a guitarist and a vocalist. Her guitar heroes are Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix and she counts Brian Eno and Nick Cave among her biggest fans. Her compelling music explores intimacy, passion, and loneliness. Anna's powerful live performance is sure to make an impact.
