KCRW at LAMC

LAMC 2010"The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) has taken a sound that was always considered underground and helped it become a global force in music and receive the respect it deserves. KCRW is one of few radio stations to play Latin Alternative music so we’ve been on this journey together. I'll be in the Big Apple for the 11th annual Latin Alternative Music Conference

starting July 6. I always get super excited to take the show on the road, but New York in the summertime has an energy like no other. I never know what to expect during LAMC because of the inundation of new, up and coming talent that continues to take this sound to the next level!

It's a huge honor to host and DJ at various events over the course of a week. The free concerts in Central Park and Prospect Park are always top notch, and of course I'm excited about seeing established acts like Maldita Vecindad, The Pinker Tones and Ozomatli, among others. The showcases will be amazing with Moderatto, Ana Tijoux and Chico Mann

to name a few, but what I'm most excited about is something I first noticed last year. A lot of the newbies coming from around the world were banging out phenomenal sets at after-hour events and late night sessions that went to the wee hours of the morning throughout the boroughs. We headed to cool speakeasies and random venues on the low low that were just incredible.

That's where the magic of this sound begins, and that's the main purpose of the conference. Since it's inception, LAMC has been about taking an underground and alternative sound and exposing it to the masses. The symbiotic relationship that exists between LAMC and KCRW is magical. We're on the same mission and it's very gratifying to know how we've championed this sound and helped a lot of these acts become household names. I'm looking forward to the surprise guests that will come through our makeshift KCRW studio. Stay tuned!
