Masquerade 2012 - KCRW's Halloween Ball - Saturday October 27
KCRW's Masquerade Is Back!
Saturday, October 27, 2012 9PM-2AM
The Legendary Park Plaza
Z-Trip M83 (DJ set)
5 uniquely themed ballrooms, KCRW DJs, live band performances,
Now in its 4th year, KCRW's Masquerade just gets better and better. Prepare for what is sure to be a feast for all your senses – live band & guest DJ; dancing to music by your favorite KCRW DJs in five uniquely themed ballrooms; the enticing antics of Vaudeville circus troupe Lucent Dossier; ghost stories from L.A.'s finest storytellers; a handful of frightfully tasty artisan food trucks; some of the best costumes you've ever seen…and more!
Z-Trip is considered to be one of the best live performance DJs in history, by both fans and peers. It’s a fact that many call him the “godfather of mash-ups”, as he is one of the originators of the genre. His worldwide sold out shows continue to set attendance records while drawing critical praise.
Mexican Institute of Sound combines a range of electronica beats and hip hop samples with traditional Mexican folk styles (norteño, mariachi, cumbia) for a fun and funky mix. In their live shows, founder Camilo Lara fronts a 4-piece band that brings his songs to life with heavy percussion and a punk flavor, all while maintaining his quirky playful energy. The Coachella alumni are all about having a good time.
Hanni El Khatib's live performances are raw, bluesy and soulful, reminiscent of blockbuster rockers the Black Keys but with a punk personality to boot. Interestingly enough, Dan Auerbach is producing his sophomore record in Nashville and, between time spent recording and flying across the world to play a slew of summer festivals, Hanni will finally return to his home in LA for this special show.
The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice-based roots collective featuring up to ten musicians at a time. Specializing in mountain bluegrass, swamp gospel, New Orleans second-line swing and jug-band blues, this high-energy ensemble will be stompin' their way through the haunted halls of the Park Plaza.
KCRW DJs on the turntables, including:
Jason Bentley, Anne Litt, Raul Campos, Aaron Byrd, Chris Muckley, Chris Douridas, Chuck P., Dan Wilcox, Eric J. Lawrence, Gary Calamar, Liza Richardson, Marion Hodges, Mathieu Schreyer, Travis Holcombe, and Valida.
