KCRW Heads Downtown for Uptown Underground
Saturday, September 22, from 10pm to Midnight

The FREE late-night party will feature the outdoor art installation Slow Dancing, with a live soundtrack by Metropolis DJ Jason Bentley.

Music, art and dance collide on Saturday, September 22 at Uptown Underground, a one-of-a-kind event presented by KCRW featuring slow moving motions and fast moving beats under the stars.

The West Coast premiere of David Michalek's outdoor installation Slow Dancing -- larger-than-life, hyper-slow-motion video portraits of famous dance artists from around the world – will be accompanied by urban beats and seductive rhythms in a live DJ set from Metropolis host Jason Bentley for this late night affair. Uptown Underground is free and open to the public, kicking off at 10pm on the Music Center Plaza along Grand Avenue in Downtown.

Slow Dancing, commissioned by Dance at the Music Center, is a series of 43 larger-than-life portraits projected on 16-foot screens revealing each dancer's technique and expression.  This fascinating portrayal of human movement challenges the limits of perception while highlighting dance as poetry in motion. The dancers include today's foremost modern and ballet artists, krump artist Lil C, Bill T. Jones and many others.

KCRW listeners, art lovers and downtown bohemians alike can experience a unique night combining the best in modern sounds with a jaw-dropping public art installment on Saturday, September 22nd from 10pm to midnight at Uptown Underground.
