    Wakestock, Lollapalooza and the Bushfire Festival

    This week GGG checks out  Wakestock in Canada, Lollapalooza in the US and to Africa for the Bushfire festival.

    The worlds biggest wakeboarding festival is held July 24-27 around the islands of Lake Ontario not far from Toronto. Wakeboarding is a combination of surfing, water skiing and snowboarding and participantss specialize in all manner of wakeboarding tricks such as the Tootsie Roll, Batwing

    and a Fakie. The music for Wakestock will be provided by the likes of Metric, We are Scientists and Gza and Rza from Wu Tang Clan.

    From Canada we head down towards Chicago for this years Lollapalooza festival. Artists on the bill include Radiohead, Rage Against the machine, Dr Dog, Black Kids and The Black Keys. The 3 day advance passes are gone but there’s still regular 3 day and single day passes available. For those of you feeling flush or just plain reckless, you could opt for the Lolla Lounge VIP pass at a hefty $850! But it includes lots of creature comforts and seating on an elevated platform so you won’t miss a beat.

    If you want to feel really special you can tick the offset Your Carbon Impact Now when you purchase your ticket– the dollars go towards offsetting the carbon emissions you cause by traveling, eating and ..er …sleeping !

    Bushfire Festival in Africa’s Swaziland. It’s held at the House on Fire which has become a cultural hub for traditional and contemporary Africa, with artist workshops and events from music festivals to weddings! Artists on the bill include Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Soweto String Quartet, Pops Mohamed and Blissful Virtuous with Swazi guests. According to the Bushfire website pre booking is essential as there’s a limit of 4000 tickets per day, there’s tight security and you’ll be pleased to know Swaziland is not a Malaria risk area.
