    Gary Calamar

    Petra Haden and Mike Watt

    Gary Calamar
    Hand-Picked Music
Special guests Petra Haden and Mike Watt play songs and discuss Petra's new cd: Petra Haden Sings: The Who Sell Out. It is the latest chapter in the always provocative, often unpredictable yet never less than fascinating musical career of Ms. Haden. The impetus for the project came from her friend, bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen, Firehose), who suggested that she attempt to re-imagine this classic Who album a capella. The final result is a technical tour de force that highlights The Who's own achievement, bringing all the elements of chorale music, vaudevillian schmaltz and Renaissance chamber ensemble playing powerfully to the fore.
