Laura Avery speaks with Geoff Bamber of Holy Guacamole about his avocados. He sells Haas avocados between December and October and Reed avocados between June and October. You'll know him because he peddles his guac like a barker on a State Fair midway. Laura also meets up with Alex Weiser who tells us about jujubes, or Chinese dates, from the tree whose branches made Jesus' crown of thorns. Alex also has a bumper crop of squashes. On Sunday, October 9, join LA cyclists and foodies for the Second Annual LACBC Bicycle Sundae: a two-wheel tour of exotic ice creams and culturally hip neighborhoods. $15 registration includes tastings, route map and bike support. Registration is 9-10am at Griffith Manor Park (1551 Flower St, near Sonora) in Glendale; Tour begins at 10am; ride covers approximately 10-15 miles. The tour samples fine and unique ice creams, ranging from Persian to Indian and from Mexican to Italian. Participating shops include Mashti Malone's new shop in Glendale, Whole Foods, India Sweets and Spices, and more. Bicycle Sundae is one of a series of rides by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition that promotes the pleasures of bicycling in Los Angeles.
