Benny Bohm, the General Manager at Ammo restaurant, does all the shopping for the restaurant at the farmers market each week.  He shops for Perilla lettuces, butter lettuces, Lola Roso and Little Gem lettuces.  He buys small to medium-sized heads of these flavorful lettuces and dresses them lightly with shallot vinagrette made with red wine vinegar.  They will do a farm-to-table dinner featuring produce of Rutiz Farms.  The dinner is Sunday, May 3rd. Michaele WeissmanMichaele Weissman journeyed inside the world of specialty coffee in search of the perfect cup.  She traveled to coffee-growing regions in Nicaragua, Panama and Ethiopia with Peter Giuliano of Counter Culture, Geoff Watts of Intelligentsia and Stumptown's Duane Sorenson.  Michaele explores the relationships between the producers, buyers and consumers in her book God in a Cup.  One of the best coffee varieties she found is Hacienda La Esmeralda's Geisha coffee from Panama, which costs $130 per pound.

Murray's Chicken, based in Pennsylvania, uses the Farm Verification System, which allows consumers to track where their chickens come from.  By entering a code from the chicken label into a form on Murray's website, you can see pictures and a map of where that chicken originated.

Guest Interview Slavery in Florida's Tomato Fields 7 MIN, 8 SEC

Barry Estabrook writes about food politics for Gourmet.  Barry has been covering the horrific conditions for tomato harvest workers in Immokalee, Florida.  The Coalition of Imokalee Workers (CIW) has organized these workers to fight for fair wages and to end the modern-day slavery practices. 

Earlier this month, Florida Governor Charlie Crist met with the CIW and expressed his support for their cause.  Read his letter of support here.
