Matt Strom is the farming assistant at Frog Hollow Farm. This is the only week that Frog Hollow will bring Apache apricots to the market, but other varieties will come for the next two weeks. They also have cherries available. Frog Hollow only comes to the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers' Market.

Guest Interview A New Ride-Sharing App Gives Yellow Cabs Serious Competition 7 MIN, 32 SEC

Jessica Gelt writes The Enabler column for the LA Times. Her column this weekend is about a new crop of ride-sharing apps that offer an alternative to traditional yellow cabs. Lyft is perhaps the most visible and user friendly of the apps, utilizing social media and gimmicks like fuzzy pink mustaches to attract clientele.

Along with KCRW producer Evan George, Gelt tagged along with a Lyft driver to check out how the app works and who is using it.

Lesley Barger Suter is the dine editor of Los Angeles magazine. The May issue features sushi in Los Angeles. Barger Suter says that David Gelb's movie, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, has changed the way Angelenos consume the Japanese delicacy. No longer addicted to spicy tuna and California rolls, LA sushi eaters are learning to appreciate the art of the sushi master. Hear Gelb talking about his film with Evan Kleiman.

gf130518rivabella.jpgJonathan Gold describes the menu at chef Gino Angellini's RivaBella as a collection of the greatest hits from Italy. The restaurant took over the enormous Hamburger Hamlet space on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. He recommends the seared swordfish carpaccio, vitello tonnato, eggplant parmigiana, spinach pappardelle with lamb ragu, linguini with sea urchin, sauteed scallops, the branzino and the veal chop.
