At his inauguration this Summer, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti pledged to do something about runaway production and to name a film czar to help him negotiate with Sacramento lawmakers. Today, he named Tom Sherak, former President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and long-time film marketing pro, to that post. Sherak has a tough battle ahead as California lawmakers have been reluctant to see Hollywood as an industry in need of support.
