While every awards season has its quirks, this year is shaping up to be an especially strange one for awards. Late in the game, there's still no frontrunner, and the two sets of nominations released this week -- the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes -- do little to shed light on the Oscar race. The SAG Awards offered some surprises -- including three nominations for Trumbo, and a big win for Netflix with a Beasts of No Nation nomination for best performance by a cast (the SAG version of best picture). Straight Outta Compton also landed a nomination for best cast, but got no love at the Globes. The Martian was snubbed by SAG, but did get a best picture nom for the Globes, albeit in the comedy or musical category. On the TV side, it's been a big day for streaming services -- Netflix scored more Globes nominations than any other network, Amazon did well with Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle and Hulu is now officially on the awards scene with Casual.
