Last week, the South Coast Safe Access medicinal marijuana dispensary in Santa Ana announced its workers had organized with the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 324. It's now the first dispensary in Southern California to sign up with a union, and UFCW officials say more dispensaries are looking into joining them. The effort comes at a crossroads for labor and marijuana, with union ranks thinning and the legalization of recreational marijuana expected to become a ballot issue in 2016.
