FROM THIS EPISODE

In 1972, Congress passed Title IX of the Civil Rights Act to mandate gender equality in all schools that receive federal funding. One aim of the legislation was to equalize opportunities for both men and women in college athletics. Over the past 30 years, women-s participation in athletics has exploded. Now, men-s coaches are going to court over the reduction of collegiate men-s teams, including track, wrestling and crew. Has Title IX created a quota system that discriminates against men? Is the Bush administration likely to take sides? We get an update on the 30-year old battle from former athletes and athletic directors, a collegiate coach, and leaders in the sports community.
