- Newsmaker: US Loses to Germany in World Cup Quarter-Finals
It-s all over for the US, but what a difference from four years ago. Despite their defeat to the Germans in the World Cup quarter-finals, the team has turned soccer into a household word. Mark Zeigler, who-s in Asia covering the games for the San Diego Union-Tribune, praises the US for outplaying an -overrated- German team and for raising US expectations for the 2006 games.
- Repoter's Notebook: Hospital Trauma Centers in Israel
In Jerusalem this week, two suicide bombings killed 26 people and injured 80 more. Many of the casualties, including several children, were taken to the emergency room at Hadassah Medical Hospital in Ein Kerem. Dr. Avi Rivkind, who heads the hospital-s Departments of Surgery and Trauma, says more efficient bombs are resulting in seemingly uninjured victims with massive and often fatal internal injuries.
