- Making News: European Union Calls Darfur Crisis Genocide
The European Parliament today called for United Nations sanctions and an arms embargo against Sudan, calling atrocities being committed in that country---s Darfur region " tantamount to genocide." - Reporters Notebook: Presidential Campaigns Target Young Voters
In 2000, most of America's youth couldn---t have cared less about the election, but this year, some 40 million 18 to 29 year-olds are showing more interest in voting than they have in years. Mark Lopez, research director for the University of Maryland's Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning Engagement, says that both presidential campaigns are targeting this youthful group that accounts for one in five eligible voters.
