- Making News: Gross Domestic Product Has Best Showing in 20 Years
The Commerce Department reports that consumer spending in the third quarter of 2003 was stronger than previously thought. The economy's 8.2 percent annual growth rate is its best in nearly two decades. Kathleen Madigan, business outlook editor for BusinessWeek, says the Internet, weather, vehicle incentives, tax cuts and rebate checks were largely responsible for the strong DGP.
