- Newsmaker: Ventura Council Passes Daytime Curfew for Minors
By a 5-to-2 vote, the Ventura City Council has made it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be on the streets of the city while public school is in session. That-s a daytime curfew on all minors from 8:30 in the morning until half-past noon. Ventura Mayor Ray DiGuilio views the new ordinance as early intervention against a growing truancy problem.

Three years ago, San Marino-s Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens celebrated a rare event, the blooming of the largest flower in the world. Now, history is repeating itself. John Trager, curator of the Huntington-s desert collection, says that people are again lining up to get a whiff of the stench from the tropical bloom of the stinky Amorphophallus Titanum, more commonly called the -corpse flower.-
