In 1990, LA voters passed campaign finance reform to limit the amount of money spent in local elections and require disclosure of the source of large contributions before voters go to the polls. This year, mayoral candidates are spending record amounts of money whose source does not have to be reported until after election day. There's agreement that the money is out of control, but what about disclosure? We get an update on campaign financing from an authority on campaign reform, then hear from campaign representatives for Antonio Villaraigosa and Jim Hahn.
  • Newsmaker: 12.5 Billion Dollars in Power Bonds Authorized The California Legislature has finally passed and sent Governor Davis a bill creating a state public power authority to build generating plants and provide consumers with cheaper electrical power. The bond idea was first proposed months ago by State Treasurer Phil Angelides.
