Jerry Brown wants to be the only 4-term Governor in California history, but you'd hardly know he's campaigning for re-election next month. We compare the pragmatist he is now with the reformer he was when he first was elected four decades ago.

Also, California oil-companies dumped three billion gallons of waste-water from fracking into underground aquifers used for drinking and irrigation. That’s a violation of federal law. Was it the cause of dangerous contamination?

Governor Jerry Brown: From Moonbeam to Pragmatist 12 MIN, 30 SEC

Governor Brown has $23 million in campaign money he’s not spending on his campaign for a fourth term in next month’s election. Neel Kashkari came to KCRW for an interview with Which Way, LA? Governor Brown hasn’t responded to our invitation.

In 1970, Brown became Secretary of State—on a platform of political reform. He sponsored the Political Reform Act, which was passed by the voters. Brown went on to be elected Governor four years later. But this year, the former reformer vetoed three bills that would have imposed tough restrictions on gifts from lobbyists to legislators.

Fracking Industry and Illegal Dumping of Wastewater 11 MIN, 36 SEC

In Kern County, the oil business is even bigger than agriculture, and using water for fracking is a familiar practice there. Waste-water, containing chemicals is then injected into the ground. In July, the State Water Resources Board shut down nine of eleven injection wells because the EPA suspected violations of the Clean Water Act.
