FROM THIS EPISODE

The dynamics of one of the most important voter campaigns in LA history have changed even in the week since Valley secession was placed on the November ballot. Hollywood secession appears destined to join the Valley effort on November's ballot. But the Local Agency Formation Commission has announced that the Harbor area lacks the financial viability to break away from Los Angeles, calling for more study before it could recommend a citywide vote. We weigh the impact of LAFCO's latest decision with Janice Hahn, who represents the Harbor area on the LA City Council, and secessionists from Hollywood Vote, Valley Vote, and the Harbor Study Foundation. Managing Editor Kyle McKinnon guest hosts.
  • Reporter's Notebook: Mixed Feelings: San Diego/Tijuana
San Diego has always cast a wary eye on its immediate neighbor to the south. Tijuana and San Diego are all but joined at the hip, separated by a jagged fence and a portal. But the documentary Mixed Feelings, which airs tonight on KCET, suggests that Tijuana is worlds apart from San Diego. Filmmaker Phillip Rodriguez talks about the cross-cultural influences in urban development at the San Diego-Tijuana border.
