The latest California Field Poll shows that just 28% of Californians feel the state is going in the right direction, with 59% saying its on the wrong track. That-s close to the pessimism recorded two years ago when Gray Davis was recalled and replaced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Local governments are too small to solve some of their most pressing problems and state government is stalled in partisan gridlock. Columnist Dan Walters with the Sacramento Bee says regionalism could be the only escape.
