FROM THIS EPISODE

Mayor Jim Hahn has picked an outsider to be LA-s next Chief of Police. He is William Bratton, who headed the New York City Transit Police and the Boston Police, before being appointed New York City Police Commissioner in 1994. Although crime declined, and Bratton made the cover of Time, his penchant for self-promotion was too much for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and Bratton was forced to resign after just two years in office. Now, Bratton says he can turn the LAPD around. Mayor Hahn will formally announce his selection tomorrow. Bratton will then be subject to confirmation by the Los Angeles City Council. We hear more about Bratton and get the reaction of major civic and law enforcement players in the process of selecting a new Chief to lead the embattled LAPD.
