Liberal Professor Irwin Chemerinsky won’t get the job and even some prominent conservatives call it a violation of academic freedom. We’ll hear from him and others tonight. UC Irvine is about to open California’s first public law school in forty years, and constitutional scholar Irwin Chemerinsky was picked as the founding Dean.  A former professor at USC who’s now at Duke, Legal Affairs magazine calls Chemerinsky one of America’s “top twenty legal thinkers.”  He signed a contract a few weeks ago, but on Tusday UC Irvine’s Chancellor Michael Drake rescinded the offer.

Reporter's Notebook Federal Court Upholds California’s Clean Car Standards 5 MIN, 33 SEC

A court decision in Vermont has both Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown declaring victory over the Bush Administration. A federal judge ruled yesterday that, to curtail global warming, Vermont can impose tougher standards on auto emissions than the federal government does.  California wants to do that too, and it has a similar suit pending in Fresno.
