Last week, Erwin Chemerinsky-  the liberal legal scholar- was let go less than a month after being hired as the founding dean of UC Irvine’s new law school.  Today, he was offered the job again, and he accepted. We’ll hear more about law, politics and money in Orange County.   Also, all construction work has been stopped on Phase Two of Playa Vista: the biggest single development project in LA history.  We’ll hear why.

UC Irvine’s “new law school will be founded on the bedrock principle of academic freedom.”  That’s according to Chancellor Michael Drake and Erwin Chemerinsky - who was hired as the founding dean of the law school on Labor Day, then let go last week. A UCI professor gathered 633 signatures protesting the action, and the national outcry included an editorial in the New York Times.  Today, Chemerinksy was hired again and he accepted.

Reporter's Notebook Court Puts the Breaks on Phase Two of Playa Vista 11 MIN, 7 SEC

The massive Playa Vista development on LA’s West Side already has 5,000 residents and hundreds of office workers.  The second phase calls for 2,600 new housing units and more retail and office space, on 111 acres. Last Friday, a three-judge appeals court ordered a halt to all construction on Phase Two.
