FROM THIS EPISODE

California no longer takes the hard line on illegal immigrants passed by the voters in 1994. Proposition 187 has been repealed by the courts, and Governor Brown signed its last vestiges into oblivion in September. Now California's more generous than other states, especially when it comes to healthcare, and that could be good news for more than a million people covered by President Obama's recent executive action.

Also, a new poll shows Californians oppose both tuition increases at the University of California and new taxes that might replace them.

President Obama's latest executive action on immigration could be especially good news for more than a million illegal immigrants in California.  They are not entitled to Obamacare, but they might qualify for California's version of Medicaid — if they're poor enough.  Medicaid is federal health insurance for low-income people, administered in California as Medi-Cal, which is more generous than Medicaid in most other states.
