Will the Valley Secede?
After six years of talk, and with the approval of the Local Agency Formation Commission, the state agency that approves the formation of new cities, San Fernando Valley secession is preparing its battle plan for the November 5 ballot. Despite Mayor Jim Hahn and former mayor Richard Riordan having teamed up to raise $ 5 million against the effort, pro-secessionists confidently claim that they will succeed in breaking away from the second largest city in the nation. We engage in a spirited debate about the promise and pitfalls of this historic independence movement with LA City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, secession pioneer Paula Boland, Valley VOTE's Richard Katz, and LA Area Chamber of Commerce President Rusty Hammer.
