Three likely American drone attacks in the past three days have killed 27 people in northwest Pakistan, a practice that's already closed supply routes thought that country into Afghanistan. Declan Walsh is in Islamabad for the New York Times.

Partisan Battles in Swing States and the November Elections ()
In tomorrow's Wisconsin recall election, the target is Republican Governor Scott Walker, and the issue is the rights of public workers. If tea partiers and big money can defeat the efforts of organized labor, what about other states and the presidential campaign? In Florida, Republican Governor Rick Scott and his Secretary of State Ken Detzner have set out to purge the voting rolls of thousands of suspected non-citizens. Two newspapers have concluded that Hispanics, blacks, Democrats and Independents are being targeted at a much higher rate than white Republicans. The Governor says, "Absolutely not true." But in a state George W. Bush won by 537 votes, anything could make a difference.

Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee ()
There were a thousand boats and a million onlookers braving a cold rain yesterday on the Thames for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. She's the only British Royal to live long enough for that honor other than Queen Victoria. Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee will be four days long, including a concert this evening featuring Sirs Elton John and Paul McCartney. Prince Phillip, who turns 91 this week, will miss it because of a bladder infection. John Burns is London Bureau Chief for the New York Times.
