The Villaraigosa Unified School District

The state legislature gave Mayor Villaraigosa substantial control of Los Angeles Schools, but the State Supreme Court called that unconstitutional. The Mayor was reduced to campaigning for votes from parents and teachers. After a long, hard campaign by Mayor Villaraigosa, parents and teachers at seven high and middle school campuses provided the votes for his “Partnership for Los Angeles Schools.” The Mayor promised new money and better academic performance, but he’s been criticized for not providing details of how he’ll accomplish what he calls a “historic” new direction.
