A Primer on the March 8 Election ()
Seven of 15 Los Angeles city council seats are up for grabs next month, along with 4 of 7 seats on the LA School Board—not to mention 10 ballot measures that are confusing even to the people who put them on the ballot. Tonight we’ll get a survey of the choices voters will have on pension reform, libraries and political contributions. There’s a proposed tax on oil wells—and one on medical marijuana, even though the measure itself points out it’s illegal to sell it.
Republicans Vote to Slash the Federal Budget ()
Republicans are trying to make good on the promises that gave them control of the House of Representatives-- planning action on 600 amendments to this year’s budget before taking off for the Presidents’ Day weekend. Will the Senate and the White House allow 100 billion dollars in spending reductions? Would they make a dent in the deficit?
Which Way L.A.? is made possible in part by the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, and the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation, which supports study and research into policy issues of the Los Angeles region.
