Depression in South LA Schools A survey of 6,000 kids at 7 of LA’s inner city high schools reveal symptoms of what professionals call “clinical depression” largely due to a fear of violence. It shows that the schools don’t provide a sense of belonging and that kids don’t think they’re getting the preparation they’re entitled to. A group called South Central Youth Empowered Thru Action deployed students to talk with each other.
