The Cross in the Mojave Desert To say that a cross honors only dead Christian soldiers is "an outrageous conclusion." That's according to US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia today during arguments about a First World War memorial erected on federal land in California's Mojave Desert 75 years ago. A National Park Service employee, even though he's a Catholic himself, complained that the cross favored one religion over all others.
