President Obama, America's Doctors and Healthcare Reform The American Medical Association applauded today when the President said doctors are rewarded for the quantity of the care they provide, not the quality. They also applauded when he said that doctors were forced to provide more care — and charge more — than they need to, turning a "calling" into a business. But applause may or may not result in support for a so-called "public option" to private insurance. We get a progress report on healthcare reform and the prospects for reducing skyrocketing medical costs.
