1) Legends of La Cienega
Legends of La Cienega is the annual bonanza of panels, parties and book-signings hosted by the La Cienega Design Quarter, starting with a party Tuesday night and all-day events Wednesday and Thursday. You can meet lots of luminaries from the interior design community, among them: Tim Street-Porter and Annie Kelly will sign their book Casa Mexico; Mallery Roberts Morgan and Mayer Rus will be guests at a party for their new book Past Perfect: Richard Shapiro Houses and Gardens; and Anthony Iannacci, a guest on this week’s DnA, will be present at two book parties for Hollywood Interiors: Style and Design in Los Angeles.
Note: to get access to any events you’ll need purchase a general pass, with the exception of a book signing by Anthony Iannacci at Mecox LA on May 5 from 2 to 3 pm. The public can also check out, for free, one of Legends’ annual enticements: fancifully-decorated storefront windows; the word on the street is that Jamie Bush’s installation at Richard Shapiro Studiolo is a must-see.

2) Digital Hollywood Spring 2016: VR/AR as Change Agent
We’ve all heard that virtual reality is the next big thing in video games and blockbuster entertainment, but what can we expect in journalism? As part of this 3-day symposium on Digital Hollywood , KCRW’s own Director of Digital Media, Joey Caroni, will moderate a discussion about the role of VR on the more serious side of the tracks. 3) Design Schools Hold End of Year Shows!
‘Tis the season for end-of-year shows at design and architecture schools across the Southland. Today’s design students are tomorrow’s design leaders. Discover them at CalArts, which is presenting exhibits from its BHA, MFA, PMFA and Motion programs, and SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture), which is extending its exhibition of “top student work” through May 15. Otis College of Art Design unveils their work on May 13.

4) AIA-LA Presents: Design for Dignity: Changing the Housing Equation by Design
Who better to help with the homeless problem in Los Angeles than architects and designers, doing what they do best: creating shelter to meet a variety of client needs? During this full-day symposium, some of the most creative architecture and design minds will join forces with a wide-range of stakeholders to create an action plan to end homelessness in Los Angeles. 5) Making LA: Todos Juntos Walking Tour
Boyle Heights is one of LA’s culturally rich neighborhoods going through fast change. Join de LaB and special host Siobhán Burke for a walking tour, with an eye to design, collaboration and community. The tour includes a walk around Mariachi Plaza, a visit with folks at Self-Help Graphics & Art, a conversation about Metro’s plans for a joint-development project site and a stop at Un Solo Sol Kitchen, a neighborhood fixture and community gathering spot.
