1. A+D Museum Annual Gala (Come on Show Come on)

A+D always manages to put the fun in fundraiser and this year’s Celebrate party should be no different as it “celebrates” California’s beach communities with a beachy-themed runway show of custom surfboards, boogie boards and skateboards. Tunes spun by KCRW’s Raul Campos.

3. Tacolandia—SOLD OUT

LA’s mobile food craze has its roots in taco trucks that served affordable snacks to workers across the region from cheerfully decorated, unpretentious trucks. Now LA Weekly marks that legacy with Tacolandia 2014 at El Pueblo de Los Angeles in downtown. The event is billed as an evening of food, drinks, entertainment and exclusive tequila tasting experience, curated by the World’s First Tacorazzo, Bill Esparza, featuring tacos from over forty of “LA and Mexico’s hottest vendors.”

When: Saturday June 28th, 2014; 3:00-7:00 PM

Where: El Pueblo de Los Angeles; 125 Paseo De La Plz, Los Angeles

Tickets:$30; Click here for tickets.

4. Muji Opening in Santa Monica

When Muji opened in Hollywood last December, one fan of Japan’s famed emporium of understated, anonymously designed household goods, was so upset the company had chosen Hollywood over Santa Monica she actually wrote to the head of the company (hear her on this DnA). That customer will be among those delighted to know that Muji is opening this Saturday in Santa Monica; but not on the Promenade — its new store is almost at the Venice border, in Ocean Park.

When: Saturday June 28, 2014; 10:00 AM

Where: 2936 Main Street; Santa Monica

Tickets: Free and open to the public.

5. Talking Heads

When: On display until July 12, 2014

In 2010, Rolston set up a portrait studio at the Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and photographed dummies from the museum’s collection of nearly seven hundred ventriloquists dolls (dating from 1820 – 1980); each was shot in square format, low angle, monochromatic backdrop, and a single light source. Now some of Rolston’s large color portraits — 60″ square — are featured in a solo show at Dianne Rosenstein Fine Art.

Where: Dianne Rosenstein Fine Art; 831 North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles

Tickets: Free and open to the public.
