The Battle of the 4th of July Box Office

Hosted by and

The Legend of Tarzan, The BFG, and The Purge: Election Year all make their box office debuts this holiday weekend. Tarzan come from Warner Bros, cost around $180 million and has been plagued with problems from conception to execution. Warners has tried to bank in on reviving old stories and fairy tales, but Disney has beaten them handedly at that game. Disney's The BFG, based on the Roald Dahl book cost about $140 million and may not have a massive opening weekend, but thanks to the prestige of director Steven Spielberg, will likely have a longer tail at the box office. Insiders are watching to see which movie makes more this weekend--they're both expected to bring in around $30 million. On the other end of the spectrum, Universal's horror movie The Purge: Election Year, cost only $10 million and may well make as much as either Tarzan or The BFG in this weekend.
