The New Frontier of Online Shows

Hosted by

This week with the NewFronts underway in New York, Kim and John discuss what the proliferation of online shows means for the business. Unlike at the broadcast TV Upfronts, the NewFronts -- in which Conde Nast, AOL and others pitch online shows to advertisers -- there weren't many completed series to view. Still, many companies are trying to get into this game that Netflix has made so appealing. Microsoft's XBox has plans to make scripted and unscripted shows. They have a show based on the video game Halo that will involve Steven Spielberg.  But without Nielson ratings or conventional metrics for success some in Hollywood wonder how showrunners and other talent will know how to negotiate their deals.
