The 2019 summer in television

In terms of numbers, Paramount TV's 'Yellowstone' is the winner of the summer. It consistently got more than 5 million viewers within 3 days of airing, which puts it in the top 5 of scripted shows across broadcast and cable. In terms of buzz, Netflix's 'Stranger Things' season 3 dominated water cooler talk for the first couple of weeks it was out--of course we don't know how many people actually watched. HBO also had a couple of successes following the end of 'Game of Thrones.' 'Euphoria' got a lot of media attention and brought in younger viewers to HBO. And the second season of 'Succession' is garnering even more critical acclaim than the first. On the other side of things, the Fox reboot 'BH90210' had a decent first episode, but ratings tanked after that. And while the U.S. version of the British reality show 'Love Island' didn't have stellar ratings on CBS, it made enough of an impression that it'll be back for another season.
