Hollywood News Banter

TV Guide magazine chief content officer Michael Schneider joins Kim Masters to discuss top entertainment news stories of the week.

  • Fall TV is back, and so far the season is off to a shaky start...except for one show: Empire. The sky-high ratings for the Fox mega-hit were a welcome relief after a disappointing rating for the heavily marketed Scream Queens.
  • The next wave of film and television may be coming to you in virtual reality. Both Netflix and Hulu are developing VR apps, and word from a recent Oculus VR conference is that Samsung will have a $99 VR device available in time for Christmas this year.
  • Universal is looking for a director for the next installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. James Wan directed the last film, a massive success, but isn't interested in keeping that job for the future, reportedly because Vin Diesel is so difficult to work with.
