What I Got at the Post Office Today by Chuck P

Written by

All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck P catalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

One word about the weather this week.  COLD.

Now, on with the countdown…

peruvian funk

1) Various Artists – “Peruvian Funk” .. from the label that brought us the two Soviet Funk compilations.  On vinyl.  We love vinyl.  Essential listening for those who like ta shake ya rump.  Myself included, although… that’s something you don’t want to see.

we are all one

2) Various Artists – “We Are All One, In The Sun” .. a tribute, in a year of amazing tributes, to Robbie Basho, guitar wizard who is often lumped in with John Fahey.  A stunning collection of artists including two tracks from Steffen Basho-Junghans, Meg Baird, Glenn Jones from Cul De Sac and five more.  On Important Records, which always gets my attention.

free bass

3) Freebass – “It’s A Beautiful Life” .. almost a various artists compilation with members from The Smiths, New Order & The Stone Roses.  Never connected with them in the past, but always have time for a reacquaintance.

Honorable mentions include a saliva-inducing package from the record label, Stones Throw, who do no wrong, a 2xcd Portland compilation called Friends & Friends Of Friends and a curious new cd from Nihiti.

Lots of music to soak up during the holiday.  I’ll help get yours started tonight at 12a.

Have a wonderful week.
