KCRW Broadcast 10

Fanatics! Another smashing intro song! I think it’s a great way to start the night. I can see seasoned KCRW listeners diving for their dials to turn away!

Ian MacKaye was in LA recently and he brought over an amazing DVD-R of music. It’s music that Lux and Ivy of The Cramps mentioned in interviews. Someone apparently hunted down a ton of songs that they talked about and put them into files. One of the tracks Ian pointed out, the Ran-Dell’s Martian Hop is where The Ruts took from in their killer b-side The Crack. I have been listening to The Ruts track over half my life and never knew where they got that from. Nice find, Ian! Also featured tonight is the original version of Green Fuz and then The Cramps version from their second album.

A couple of things to mention. Pepi Ginsberg gave me a copy of her new album, East Is East several weeks ago but told me to keep it on the down low until I heard from her. Since I found out about Pepi’s music through KCRW Kung Fu master, Anne Litt, I asked Pepi if I could pass on the album to her. Pepi said yes and so Anne and I have been sitting on this very cool album ever since. Pepi wrote me a few days ago and said we were free to play tracks off it, so here we are. I don’t know if Anne will feature a track from it this weekend, that’s up to her but we will be playing a track off it tonight, pretty cool.

Also, Anne sent me a link to download a track from the new Dinosaur Jr. album, Farm, not due out for weeks called You Should Know and we will be playing that one tonight as well. Not bad, Fanatics! Also a track from the new Unknown Instructors album, featuring David Thomas of Pere Ubu.

I hope you enjoy this thoughtful mix of music we have brought out for your consideration.

Until we do it again next week, Fanatics . . . STAY FANATIC!!! --Henry
