KCRW Broadcast 26

Fanatics!

Twenty-six weeks in, I think I have made it to the half year mark at KCRW! So far, I am still here and all seems to be going well. A lot on the plate tonight so let's get crackin'.

Simone from World Village wrote in and said that Terakaft canceled their tour. You never know, they might get here at some point but for now, we wait.

Also, if any of you were interested in checking out my three Fanatic! books, we are having a massive sale on stuff at my site and those three books are on the sale list. HenryRollins.com takes you there.

I thought that starting with Duke Ellington tonight was a classy way to wade into the fray. Mr. Ellington comes from Washington DC, just like Ian MacKaye. A little bit of a concept running through our show tonight. You will see the Amon Düül II tracks running through a good part of the show, I think they sit well with all the other stuff we are listening to tonight. The Manal track is from that cool comp. CDR that DJ Lizatheparalyza gave me. I don't know anything about the band but I like this one track so I figured we should play it. I am probably way too excited about the Air Miami track. As you know, we play a lot of music from the Teenbeat label on our show. I love this band and had thought I had heard all their music. I am forgetting how I came upon the All Virgos Are Mad compilation but I did and found that there was a track of theirs that I had not heard. It's a great one. If you don't know, Air Miami features Mark Robinson and Bridget Cross of Unrest in what I guess is the closest you will get to an Unrest reunion. From the credits on the comp. it says that Mike Fellows recorded drums on this track. Fellows was in the great bands Rites Of Spring and Happy Go Licky among others. It was great to hear new Air Miami so many years after the band had broken up so I figured it was a perfect track for our show. I thought I would bring in a couple of songs that have been appropriated by others such as the case with Henry Thomas and Blind Will Johnson. All in all, a set that bounces all over the spectrum. I hope you enjoy the show and even in these turbulent times, STAY FANATIC!!!
