KCRW Broadcast 305

Fanatic! Tonight’s show is so great. A lot of vinyl-to-CDR tracks and cassette to CDR tracks as well.

Ty Segall is putting out records in his sleep it seems. Good ones, too. Check tonight’s version of Paranoid. Next week we will rock a track from his crushing live album that just came out on the mighty Castleface label.

Check the Gun Club cover of the Sonics classic Psycho. I pulled that from a live tape I have had for a long time.

Also, we have our first listen to Alex Cameron. Mr. Cameron’s album Jumping the Shark. This review explains the concept: http://crawlspacemagazine.com/2014/04/20/the-pop-myth-alex-camerons-jumping-the-shark-reviewed/

Here is the address for Alex’s awful site:

This Alex Cameron video is right out of a David Lynch hell dream!

I am happy to pass this info onto you. This is the bandcamp address for the Ooga Boogas Booga Box download. SO GREAT!!! Not a bad song in the bunch I think. 25 songs!!!

Wait until you hear J Mascis take the guitar into the stratosphere on the last track of hour 1. I was at this show. This was released as a live album and that’s where the track was pulled from. There is not a download card that comes with it so I went LP to CDR. The record is really good and just got re-issued in two different colored editions. I have listened to them both and they sound great. Here is info on that:

In our second hour, we go all over the place. One of the better breaks in life was a package of CDs that were sent by Julia at the Rice Is Nice label. Really liking the Summer Flake album You Can Have It All. Warmer weather listening than we usually do at this time of the year but it’s hot in Australia, so in the spirit of it’s always 5 pm somewhere, we play a track. If you like this song, the rest of the album is as great.

We have not checked in with JJ Starr for awhile, so I put in one of his amazing Roll Calls from 1986.

I just noticed that we have a lot of Australian jams in our show tonight. All I can say is if there weren’t so many great records coming out of there all the time, we wouldn’t be in this predicament, now would we?!

Next week’s show is already underway. Get ready for a track from the new Jack Name album Weird Moons.
