KCRW Broadcast 39

Fanatics!

All is well in Kolkata, India, where I am presently writing to you from. The last time I was here, it was called Calcutta. Some buildings still have that legend on the front but for the most part, everything official says Kolkata. I have been here for a few days, wandering here and there, taking photographs. Before I came here, I was in Dhaka, Bangladesh. That was an interesting experience to say the least. Kolkata is a very busy, very loud place. I found some little used streets to walk on today, so I didn’t have to watch out for vehicles so much. Today the main thing I had to avoid was herds of goats and their herders. I went to goat central, right near the river. It was a good walk. The weather is cool and dry but you want to be off the streets before it gets too dark because the mosquitoes come out in great number.

Tonight’s mix is a good one, no, make that a great one. I have been playing it this week and I still love it. In fact, I am listening to it right now. I think you will find a lot of the players on tonight’s broadcast to be part of our usual suspects with some interesting new thangs thrown in as well. I have been gathering some interesting music out here. I got a lot of crazy Metal music from a guy in Sri Lanka several days ago, some of it is absolutely great. I will get it to you as soon as I can. Engineer X and I are working on a cool live in Kolkata broadcast now. He has all the music, now I need to supply the rest. The test will be to not get hit by a car, rickshaw or anything else as I talk to you via my digital recorder. Indonesian traffic is sane by comparison to the insanity that is the norm around here. You should see the sides of busses here. It’s like all they do is scrape against things. All the parts are welded back on, it’s all been torn off before. It’s been a good trip so far. When the sun sets here, everything looks amazing. I am taking as many photos as I can.

Some things to be stoked about: PIL’s Metal Box / Second Edition album has been remastered and will come out next month. Can’t wait to hear that one. I am more interested to hear the CD, I have my original Metal Box from when came out. Dan Trice, our resident Fall info source let me know that there’s a new single out by the band. I secured a copy and hopefully it will be back at the office.

If I get out this journey in one piece, I will get it on the show. Speaking of Mr. Trice, he’s loving tonight’s show featuring another Empire track. That album never gets old.

Ok, I have to get the lights out and all three eyes closed. The tea here is very strong. Until next week, STAY FANATIC!!!
