KCRW Broadcast 4

Fanatics! Tonight is going to be a great one! I have been working on this batch of songs for quite awhile. For several days, I was playing a version of this one and it wasn’t doing it for me. It was all good music, of course but there was something about the overall that wasn’t making me excited. I overhauled the whole thing, dropped some tracks, added some and came up with what we have here. I have played it a couple of times and I believe it holds up rather well. Boredom will not do!

It was Ian MacKaye who turned me onto Tony Allen’s Black Voices album. What a find! Again, we visit the Chrissy Zebby Tembo record again, the guy has an amazing tone. Of all the John Lee Hooker albums I have, I think my favorite one is the That's Where It's At! album, such a great sound on this session, this is one of my favorite tracks on it. It was KCRW’s own Anne Litt who turned me onto Pepi Ginsberg many weeks ago. Ms. Ginsberg has a very unique voice. I hope you dig what we’re doing at the end of the show, it’s nice slice of Avant and Noise stuff from different times and countries. I don’t know how many of you have heard any Team Doyobi. I first heard them on a compilation CD and the one track made me very curious so I went online and began searching out their recordings. Their records are not the easiest to find but I think they’re worth it, really crazy stuff.

I hope you enjoy tonight’s show. I am excited to get it out to you in the fastest two hours of my life. It always seems I look up at the clock and there’s only twenty minutes left.

Next week, we will listen to Raymond Scott, Discharge, Link Wray and a ton more. I have already started obsessing over the whole thing so by the time we meet again, I will be ready!

Thanks for hanging out with us tonight and I do hope you tune in next week. Until then, STAY FANATIC!!! -- Henry
