KCRW Broadcast 40

Fanatics!

Engineer X and I have done it yet again. Tonight’s show was concepted and done in Kolkata India, sent back to the Sonic Jihadist himself, assembled and you have a radio show complete with good music and some crazy late afternoon traffic.

Presently, I am in Bhopal India. In a few hours, it will be the 25th anniversary of the Union Carbide methyl isocyanate gas leak that killed thousands and all these years later, is still doing a lot of damage to the people here. Yesterday, I went to the factory site and walked all over the neighborhoods surrounding the long abandoned plant. It was the people in these neighborhoods that got hit first and hardest. I don’t think many could have survived. I will be out all day tomorrow seeing what I can see on the streets here. My hotel is filling up with camera crews. I will let you know what goes down.

Let’s have a look at all this fantastic music for tonight’s show. I secured some music local vendors in Kolkata and you will hear evidence of that straight away. Our Unholy Sermon track is some interesting music I got in Kandy Sri Lanka. I can’t tell you much about Brainiac but I am digging them. DJ Liza Richardson loaned me the CDs and I found them to be pretty cool. I will be giving them more listens when I can. Damn, I am loving this Roscoe Mitchell track. The whole album is great as well. I know, what’s a Badfinger track doing on our show. Nothing wrong with the band or the song but a little too normal? Perhaps not as reaching as our standard fare, Fanatics but it is a damn fine piece of work and I think that we can afford a song like this now and then, lest we get too damn cool. Our Beatles track is a testament to the impact Indian music and culture had on George Harrison and the band as they eventually went there and knocked out quite a bit of music. I remember being a very young boy when I first heard Within You, Without You and it really moved me, so I thought it would a good way to end our show. I hope you enjoy the show. Stay warm and STAY FANATIC!!!
