Fanatics!

CONCEPT ALERT!!!!! I repeat: CONCEPT ALERT!!!!! Tonight Fanatics, we start with a customary heaping of eclectic tuneage to take care of all that ails you and then we dive headlong into one of the best releases from the great Teenbeat label, an album by some band called Unrest. All the Unrest records are worth checking out, most of their material is in print from your friendly pals at Teenbeat: http://www.teenbeatrecords.com/. More on all of this several words from now.

I would be remiss if I didn't say that it's a great loss, the passing of Pete Steele of Type O Negative. Such a cool guy. I was lucky enough to hang out with Pete on a few occasions and he was very intelligent and very funny. He will be missed. Thanks for all your letters reminding me to mention him.

I have been in Australia for several days now and am finally getting to grips with the jetlag that usually pounds me. Shows are going well and at the time of this writing I am eight shows into this particular leg so far.

If you have looked ahead to see what we're going to jam on tonight, you will see that we have sixteen great tracks before we even get to the greatness of Unrest's Perfect Teeth album. We start the celebrations with The Fall, not all that surprising but a great song, one of their early nods at genius. I don't know anything about Kaleidoscope but I like this song. We have not spent much time with the Nuggets II box set, even though it's been in the collection for years, I figured we better get into that thing and fire it up. It's been awhile since we have listened to Lake Of Dracula. That's some hard to find vinyl, great music. If you feel yourself so inclined, the CDs are easy enough to track down, it's the LPs that will run you some at this point. Thanks to Road Manager Ward, we have some Tangerine Dream in the set again. He is the one who urged me to check out their early material. I am checking out the first four albums and finding them to be pretty cool. Isn't It cool to hear Art Tatum do his thing to Stompin' At The Savoy? So great, all the places he takes it. We have not played anything from the last Suicide album for a long time so I reckoned it was time to bring that one to the SJ and tonight it's a Power Au Go-Go, a great track. The Eddy Current Suppression Ring is really picking up momentum here in Australia. They are on their third album now and quite the draw. Just remember, we were listening to them when they were small! More ECSR jams next month, I think you will dig the new songs. It's been awhile since we jammed with Al Eide and so of course, more is needed. Up not down!!!!!!!

In my opinion, Unrest saved their best for last. After a string of excellent independent albums and a great deal of success, their last album was Perfect Teeth released in 1993. A perfect mix of great songwriting, smarts and peerless production. It's great on CD and sublime on vinyl. I think you can find copies fairly easily from Teenbeat and for the LP, perhaps internet. After the band broke up, there was somewhat of a reformation in the form of Air Miami, featuring Mark Robinson and Bridgette Cross . The album they made, Me, Me, Me has been gotten quite the airing on our show over the years as many of you know. I think that Perfect Teeth has so many moods and textures, that it merits a complete listening and that's why I wanted to run the whole thing at you on this night.

Fanatic! You know the drill: STAY FANATIC!!!
